Living in London - A place to call home

It seems to be getting colder and colder. The 'heatwave' is long gone, now it is a cold English winter. Luckily I still haven't had the pleasure of being stuck in the cold and rain, but I'm sure it will come soon enough. When the sun is out all the English people say what a beautiful/lovely/great day it is outside, it is still 8 degrees!

I went for an interview at a recruitment agency who specialise in medical reception/secretarial roles, it was a long process, basically you do all the basic information gathering process with an administrator, then I had a very intense formal interview with the main recruiter. It was a daunting experience but I knew I needed the interview practice if I was ever going to get a job. It was also very helpful for the position I was trying to get at the time, as they take the time to test your typing speed, which I had never done before, to see if there was a chance for me to get more money

So I ended up getting the job at the Health Spa.  I have found that for most jobs in the UK, you will need to go through an agency, but this job was advertised independent of an agency, so the employer put up the advertising themselves, and they then do all the interviewing themselves aswell.

I have been busy starting my new job at an upmarket Health Spa in Kensington, a really lovely part of London. Kensington has lots of great shopping, restaurants and the Health Spa is right next to the beautiful Kensington Gardens. I am enjoying it alot.

I have done some sight-seeing, went to Harrods, amazing, then spent hours in Notting Hill on Portobello Road, where there are markets on the weekends, but I just went during the week, some amazing designer vintage shops, selling things for hundreds and hundreds of pounds-some beautiful stuff, it was amazing. Pics of Kate Moss, Lindsay Lohan, Kylie and Madonna wearing their clothes.

On the house front, on Sunday, I moved out of the hostel into a place with almost as many people, where I will be living for the next prob 3-6 months, it's great! It is a three bedroom place, with six people living there, everyone pretty much keeps to themselves, but we do go out on the weekends together too, which is nice. My friend from Australia and I are sharing a room with this guy until he moves out in a couple of weeks, then another friend will move in and we can make it beautiful and feel like home. The first night was so depressing since we had been looking forward to having our own bed for so long, we got into the room and our room-mate had wet towels on the floor so the room stunk and the lighting is really dull and depressing. We need to re-arrange a few things to make it feel like home.

I ended up finding this flat through a friend who was moving out, which was really good timing.  I would recommend getting a job first, you can find alot of hostels that are fairly cheap to stay in while you are still looking for a job and a flat.

Cheers, Kerrin.
