Getting into the American spirit!

24-year-old Davina from Eltham, Victoria, is getting into the American spirit the best way she knows how - by watching the national sport with a hot dog, beer and a giant foam hand.

"How do I hold a hot dog and beer, with a giant foam hand on one hand? I can assure you, I managed!!!! So - trips are great, camp is great, I am just loving life."

The Camp
Camp Lake Hubert (for girls aged 8-17) is located in Minnesota and offers over 30 land, water and adventure activities for campers to choose from.

BUSY!
"Camp is flying by. We are already into the second week of second session- a whole new group of campers to get used to. I had an awesome time over session break (the whole 24 hours we got off). I did airport duty, so got to keep a van down in the city along with three of my best mates - Mel from England, Cameron from the Gold Coast, and Phil from NZ. We had an awesome time! We caught a major league baseball game- our beloved Minnesota Twins versus the Cleveland Indians. It was a pearler of a game with the twins getting up to win in the bottom of the 10th. We did the whole "pass the hot dog down the aisle" thing, and I was more than content, with my biggest problem being "how do I hold a hot dog and beer, with a giant foam hand on one hand?" I can assure you, I managed!!

Driving on the wrong side of the road
"I'm becoming quite good at driving on the wrong side the road. I have now driven to the twin cities (Minneapolis and St Paul - 2½ hours) twice. Camp has been awesome and given us a "shuttle" to the cities on our days off. I'm not too sure why they call it a shuttle since so far it's just ended up being me driving some friends. It's great of the camp to do it, there's only so much time you can spend in Brainerd, which is the closest thing to a town in the area."

Cliff climbing, canoeing and forgotten food!
"I've just returned from my first trip of the session, rock climbing, overlooking Lake Superior. It was absolutely awesome!! Climbing 60 foot down cliff faces, with nothing below but the pristine water of Lake Superior. This lake is practically an ocean. It is HUGE! You can't see the other side and it is tidal. So the whole trip was awesome. The kids were terrific, we took some great hikes to waterfalls and everything went perfectly- except one minor detail.....I LEFT ALL THE FOOD AT CAMP!! Well, I was extremely embarrassed to say the least but also found the funny side of it. One of the directors drove the food to us the next day (4 HOURS), thankfully I had some food in a separate box so we got through that for dinner and breakfast. So besides a little dented pride all is good, and I've even been told I can have the same job next summer if I choose to return. So I'm now on my day off before I head to the boundary water for the canoeing trip. Life is hard (lol!)."

Loving life
"So, trips are great, camp is great, I am just loving life at moment. My biggest decision is where to head after camp. At this stage I'm still planning to be in the UK in November then Canada in December.

Until next time, take care, be good, have fun!"
