NEW CANADIAN VISA ANNOUNCED

We have just received some exciting breaking news, announcing a new – and improved - working holiday visa arrangement between Australia and Canada.
There are several big changes planned for the current Canadian working holiday (WHP) visa system, and at this stage we can tell you that the visa will work as follows:
- Valid for 24 months (2 Years) - The existing 12-month visa duration period will be replaced with a 24-month period.
- No quota (no limit of the amount of visas issued each year) - The annual visa quota will be removed. Under current visa regulations only 7 550 visas are available to Australians each year, but under the new regulations there will be no such limit.
- Multiple visas – You can have it more than once - Australians will now be able to apply for a Canadian working holiday visa more than once.
- Multiple Entry - Within the duration of the visa, participants can leave and re-enter the country as many times as they like.
- Australians citizens will be able to study in Canada for up to 6 months.
- There will not be any restrictions on the type of work that Australians can undertake in Canada, and visa participants can work for the same employer for the full 24 month period if they wish.
These changes will come into effect in January 2008
The eligibility criteria for this visa will remain the same as the previous WHP visa, with applicants required to be between the ages of 18-30, and with AUD$4000 proof of funds available to them. The cost of the visa will also remain steady at AUD$165. These changes will not apply to New Zealand passport holders.
Current or past WHP visa holder?
These changes mean that you will be able to apply for another
visa. If you are currently in Canada, you can apply for your
new visa online from January 2 2008. Once your application is
approved you will need to leave and re-enter Canada to activate
the new visa. There are no extensions available to current
visas. If you currently hold a WHP visa that will expire
before you are able to apply for a new visa, and do not wish
to leave Canada, you may obtain a visitors permit (under which
you CANNOT work) for the interim.
