THE COLORADO ROCKIES - THE UNLIMITED LIFESTYLE

“Wow, have been having the absolute best time of my life over in Colorado. Couldn't have asked for a better location! Really enjoying work & have made some awesome friends, girls and boys.

Been back in Oz for a couple of weeks and head back over in one and a half weeks to finish my 10 month visa... The airport pretty much closed for the "mud season" for about 6 weeks so I was allowed to have like 4 weeks off so decided to come home but can't wait to get back over there and keep having fun. It’s been the best thing I’ve ever done in my life!”
- Deearne (worked at CME 07/08): Facebook message to IEP.

*********

Last year, IEP hooked up with American employer Colorado Mountain Express (CME) and launched the Work USA Unlimited program to give Aussies who weren’t students and weren’t under 30 the chance to live it up on a working holiday. Deearne was one IEP member who scored a job as counter staff at Eagle Airport for CME and has spent the past seven months living in Colorado and having an unbelievable time.

“The only way I can describe the lifestyle here is...fun. No stress, great people, very easy going and laid back,” Deearne explained.

“CME is a shuttle bus company that services the Rocky Mountains from Denver airport to Beaver Creek, Aspen, Vail and other places. I work at Eagle Airport, a regional airport about 40 mins from Vail. I really enjoy my job, the people you meet are just great, you live together, work together and socialise together. I met a lot of really good guests as well”

Many Australians visiting North America have never even seen snow before and although she didn’t become a true snow bunny while away, Deearne was suitably impressed with her very first snow experience.

“When I came here it was the first time I’d ever seen snow, it was beautiful. It all adds to the experience. I attempted snowboarding once. Some people go every chance they have, some just choose not to.”

Many Work USA Unlimited participants were drawn to the program by the offer of spending a season hitting the slopes in their time off but Deearne explained that not everyone working for CME lives for champagne powder and huge overnight dumps, but no matter where their interest lies the atmosphere is one of fun.

Deearne lived in a four bedroom, two bathroom apartment with some girls she met on an IEP/CME Facebook group before she left home.

‘We just started chatting on Facebook and then we put in a housing request together and ended up being roommates

Their apartment was in Kayak Crossing about five minutes from Vail with easy access to shops and work with regular staff and public buses.

For Deearne the experience has definitely impacted on her life, she said,

“It has made me confident and a lot happier in myself.”

CME will be interviewing in Australia during August and is offering the following positions to Australians over the age of 21.

Guest Services Driver
Airport Counter Agent
